Communication is Key!

This last week was all about communication. How can patient clinician relationship have and maintain the most effective communication?

 

Patient-clinician communication (PCC) must occur via a dialogue. Physicians have to make better use of interpersonal communication skills and build strong relationships between themselves and their patients [1, 2, 5, 6]. A licensing requirement for many seeking medical degrees is to score the minimum on a comprehensive communication skills test, used to make the physician well rounded but also to ensure that they can effectively communicate their patients [1, 6]. During the span of a clinicians practicing career it’s been established in the US more than 150,000 patients will be interviewed by said physician [6]. With such massive volume the nstitute of Medicine, the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and the American Board of Internal Medicine requires communication skills levels meet a minimum to ensure good medical practice…
