We live in a society where technological progress has driven lifespans to all time highs and the overall standard of living has increased due to these progressions. Yet one stark truth remains and this is the disparity between the supply and demand of individuals in need of an organ donation. In 2012 there were a total of 265 Canadians who died waiting for a life-saving organ donation out of a long list of 4,543 individuals (Source). Just receiving a donation is not the end of it, recipients’ bodies could also reject the organ itself, creating an immune attack that could potentially harm that individual, or worse.
